The symptoms of ascariasis are only noticed when there are a large number of roundworms in the intestine or when one of the roundworms reaches adulthood. Symptoms of ascariasis:
- Intestinal colic;
- Difficulty of evacuation;
- Nipple;
- Lack of appetite;
- There may be appendicitis;
- There may be malabsorption of nutrients leaving the individual anemic.
Adult worms have a length ranging from 15 to 50 centimeters and a diameter of 2.5 to 5 millimeters and they may even affect other organs and in this case the symptoms may vary. Treatment for ascariasis
Treatment for ascariasis is usually done by taking medicines for worms like Albendazole, for example. The medicine will kill the worm and it should be eliminated naturally through the feces. But if the tapeworm has affected other organs the treatment may include the need for minor surgery for its removal.
