Alteia is a medicinal plant, also known as White Mallow, Marsh Mallow, Malvaísco or Malvarisco, which has the following properties:
- Soothing;
- Anti-inflammatory, containing flavonoids;
- Relieve cough, throat inflammation and bronchitis;
- Combat infections as it strengthens the immune system;
- Reduce blood sugar levels;
- Helping the healing of wounds in the mouth, teeth, boils, acnes and burns, when applied in the injured region through a compress.
The scientific name of the alteia is Althaea officinalis, and it can be purchased at natural products stores, handling pharmacies and free fairs.
How to use
To obtain its properties, one can use the leaves and root of the alteia, both to drink and to put on wounds in the skin. To treat cough, bronchitis and strengthen the immune system, the ways of using this plant are:
- Sex extract: 6 g per day;
- Extract fluid from the root: 2 to 5 ml, 3 times a day;
- Root tea: 2 to 3 cups a day.
To stimulate healing, a clean cloth should be soaked in the high tea and applied several times a day on the wounds on the skin and in the mouth.
How to prepare tea or tea
The alteia tea should be prepared in the proportion of 2 to 3 g or 1 teaspoon of the dried root for every 150 to 200 ml of water. At the time of preparation, the root of the plant should be added in boiling water, but with the fire already off, for 10 minutes. After this time, one should filter and drink the warm or iced tea.
Contraindications
The alteia is contraindicated during pregnancy or lactation and during the use of products containing alcohol, tannins or iron. In addition, diabetic patients should only consume this plant according to medical guidance, as it may increase the effect of medications and cause changes in blood glucose levels.
