The best way to know the sex of the baby is to wait for the 20 weeks of gestation and to perform the ultrasound to observe the genital region of the fetus. Another option is to do the blood test for fetal sexing, which can be done from 8 weeks of pregnancy, but that, unlike ultrasound, is not offered by SUS.
However, there are other tests to know the sex of the baby before the ultrasound. Some are homemade and do not have any scientific backing, but there is also a test that is purchased at the pharmacy, which is very similar to the pregnancy test, which uses urine to identify the sex of the baby.
1. Pharmacy test
The pharmacy test to know the sex of the baby can be done at home and is similar to the pregnancy test because it measures the amount of hormones present in the woman's urine. Although not entirely effective because it has a 90% accuracy, this test can be performed from the 10th week of pregnancy, and the result may be wrong, especially if the woman is pregnant with twins, has taken progesterone, has a syndrome of the polycystic ovaries or had sexual intercourse within 48 hours before the test.
2. Needle or Covenant Testing
This test consists of using a needle with a thread, or the alliance tied at the end of a hair, on the pregnant woman's belly and observing the movement of the needle to find out if it is a boy or a girl.
To perform the test, the pregnant woman should lie on her belly and hold the line, leaving the needle or the ring hanging over her belly, like a pendulum, without making any movement. Then observe the movement of the needle over the belly of the pregnant woman and interpret according to the results below.
To know the sex of the baby one must evaluate the movement of the needle. So the sex of the baby is:
- Girl: when the needle or the ring keeps spinning in the form of circles;
- Boy: when the needle or the ring stays under the belly or makes the movement back and forth.
But be careful because this test has no scientific evidence and therefore the best way to know the sex of the baby is to do ultrasound after 20 weeks of gestation or blood test for fetal sexing.
