Poejo is a medicinal plant, also known as mint, widely used as a digestive and in the fight against colds and flu.
This plant is very aromatic, being often found in humid places, on the edge of rivers or streams. The poejo has an intense and penetrating aroma, as it is astringent, contracts the tissues and tends to dry the mucous membranes, when in contact with the mouth can produce a sensation of roughness.
Its scientific name is Mentha Pulegium and can be purchased at natural products stores, free trade shows or drugstores.
What is it for
The poejo serves to fight cold and flu, cough, lack of appetite, bad digestion, heartburn, gas, intestinal cramps, coryza, phlegm, bronchitis, asthma, intestinal worms, fever, delayed menstruation.
How to use
The parts used are its leaves, stems and flowers.
- Tea of poejo: Put 10 grams of leaves in a pan and cover with 200 ml of boiling water. Dab until softening, straining and drinking the next. Take 2 to 3 cups a day.
The poejo can be used in cooking to season salty dishes such as fish dishes, açorda, infusion, liqueur, flavored olive oil, in meat dishes, as well as sweet dishes such as pudding, pie, compote and fruit salad.
The crushed leaves can be used to apply on wounds because it acts as refreshing and antiseptic. Crushed leaves act as a natural repellent away from flies, mosquitoes, ants and moths.
