Marburg hemorrhagic disease is a rare and potentially fatal hemorrhagic disease, most common in Africa, which manifests itself through the following symptoms :
- sudden high fever, headache, muscle pain and tiredness.
- diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting,
- pain in the chest and throat, inflammation of the eyelids,
- weight loss, jaundice, delusions, changes in the renal system,
- bleeding gums, vomiting with blood, blood in the stool and blood in the urine,
- seizures, major blood loss and coma.
The disease is transmitted from one person to another through contact with the secretions of the infected individual and therefore the patient should remain in isolation.
Treatment for Marburg disease
The treatment for Marburg hemorrhagic disease is not specific and so the disease can lead to death in less than 15 days. Some treatment measures that may help the body to defend itself and thus cure the disease are: keep the individual properly hydrated, breathe with the aid of oxygen mask and periodic blood transfusions.
Marburg disease is more common on the African continent, and because in these countries the body's immune system, which is responsible for the body's natural defenses, is very weak, the death rate from this disease can exceed 90%.
