Fluorouracil is an injectable or topical drug that has active ingredient Fluouracil. This drug is also known commercially as Efurix.
This is an antineoplastic drug, which works by preventing the spread and aiding in the treatment of cancer cells.
Indications of Fluorouracil
Cancer of the colon and rectum; breast cancer; anal cancer; pancreas cancer; cancer of the stomach cancer of the head and neck; liver cancer; Ovary cancer; actinic keratosis.
Side effects of Fluorouracil
Diarrhea; vomiting; nausea; mouth sores; lack of appetite; watery eyes; sensitivity to light; changes in taste; metallic taste in the mouth during the administration of the medicine; discoloration along the vein through which the medication is given; anemia; infections: bleeding.
Contraindications of Fluorouracil
Pregnancy risk D; women in the lactation phase; hypersensitivity to Fluorouracil.
How to use Fluorouracil
Injectable use
Adult
- Administer 7 to 12 mg per kg of body weight for 4 days. Take a 3-day interval, and then administer 7 to 10 mg per bodyweight daily for 2 weeks.
It is not recommended to use the same vein for continued applications.
Topic Use
- Actinic Keratosis : Apply the medicine on the lesions with a thin layer of the product, 2 times a day.
Care must be taken when handling the medicine, gloves should be worn and the hands should be washed thoroughly after application.
